He's definately starting to start teething a bit more now-poor little guy!

We headed down to Chicago to the Renegade Craft fair in Wicker Park-which was a lot of fun and I got a few x-mas gifts started-I can't believe it's that time of year already....

I also got the opportunity to go to the Packer game on Sunday night against the Bears. Tiff and I enjoyed a great game, lots of beer and tons of fun. I even got this pic with Leroy Butler-this was after I told him "I could take you" (yeah I know too many beers-he was really nice though). And ofcourse we beat the Bears!

I will definately add Ethan's 6 month pics this week!

We have a tooth!

So that's probably the most exciting news from this past weekend-we discovered that Ethan is getting his first tooth on Sunday. He's been doing really well though and hasn't been too cranky about it-hopefully that lasts!

We tried to take it a bit easy this past weekend since we had a couple of really busy weekends in a row and are packing up and heading to Nebraska this weekend-even thought I'm still not quite sure which direction it is in.

I also almost forgot to mention that Ethan now sleeps on his stomach, which totally scares the bejezeezes out of me-poor Justin, i make him check to make sure Ethan's breathing about twice a night right now-yes you can tell i'm a first time mom :)
We did get a lot accomplished though: we saw family, bought Ethan some much needed new clothes, a car seat, went on a hike to Seven Bridges in South Milwaukee and I'm sure there's much more that I'm forgetting-but here are some pics from the weekends' events.

Tons of Fun

here's a short recap of the weekend...

Saturday we headed out to the farmers market to pick up some last minute items for our shindig, finished cleaning and stopped by my work picnic for a little bit-Ethan got his first tattoo! a little turtle on his leg-unfortunately I forgot to snap a quick pic of that. We then raced home from there to get home about 15 minutes before our own Summer BBQ/housewarming/graduation party started(so typical of us and of course we didn't have the tables or chairs set up yet either). I was worried about not having enough room for everyone but it worked out great and the cooler weather that day helped too-Ethan enjoyed the party but didn't want to really eat or nap because he was afraid he'd miss out-no crabbiness though which was great.

On Sunday we headed over to the Zoo to meet up with Nick, Janet, Wilson, Graham and Louise. Tons of food and animals later we were ready to head home. Tons of fun though-it was our first year and we'll definately be going back. Also great weather.

Love that you can bring your own beer to the zoo!

We're planning on this weekend being a bit more low key, we'll see how that goes, we're still toying with the idea of heading up to Door County for a day. Never a dull moment-at least not until winter!

Not a fan of peas at all, but the homegrown squash was a hit yesterday!

mommy and me yoga class-kicked my butt!

State Fair induced thought

So we went to the State Fair last night and had a great time-we were only able to stay for a couple hours because we went after work and had some delays and then wanted to get Ethan home before it got too late. But while we were there I saw something that keeps sticking in my head. There was this company Hooked Productions that had bamboo and organic cotton t shirts and sweatshirts-so of course Justin and I were immediately drawn to it, but a lot of the shirts had the same saying "live the life you love-love the life you live". It's making me think-am I really living the life I love?
I mean I obviously love so much about my life-my family-immediate and extended, our house, our neighborhood etc, but there are some things that aren't quite what we wanted to be doing or where we wanted to be at this point. So I ask myself- Is it better to live by the phrase-you're only young once and live the life you love and take a chance on doing something/working somewhere that could potentially make you happier and more fulfilled, but also has the big risk associated with it? Hmmmm.....deep thoughts for an early Friday morning-thought I'd share!

5 Months

Wow I can't believe it's been 5 months already!
Ethan is continuously learning new things and amazing us every day. He is now rolling over and loves to scoot across the floor on his back and definitely has us all wrapped around his little finger. These past few weeks along with the few weeks coming up have/are going to be a whirlwind. There is so much going on...it seems like everything happens at the end of summer. We're gearing up for State Fair and Justin's dad's 60th birthday party this weekend and then Our BBQ and A'la Carte at the zoo next weekend.

Ikea and Chill on the Hill

This past weekend we decided to make the trip down to IKEA for some much needed storage. We decided not to take Ethan along since we knew we'd be there a long time and space int he car would be greatly needed. So we started off the morning walking over to the South Shore Farmers Market with my parents which was a lot of fun-we hadn't gotten the chance to get down there yet this year and I would highly recommend it to anyone who can get over there. From there we packed up Ethan and all of his stuff for his FIRST OVERNIGHT TRIP. Once we settled him in at my parents we headed off to Ikea to what turned out to be a very long 5 hour shopping experience(not including travel time), I was a little disappointed by what they had to offer this time, but still managed to fill the car completely. Justin and I both mentioned how strange it was not to have Ethan with us. We went to pick up Ethan the late the next morning and he was having a great time with Grandma and Grandpa-everything went really well, but we were glad to have him back. Here's one of the things we picked up for him-now he has a matching chair to the one we have in his room.

Last night we had the chance to take a walk down to Chill on the Hill with some friends, it was a little cool for August, but ended up being pretty fun-Ethan stayed up past his bedtime, but didn't get crabby which was great. The music wasn't the greatest this time-it was a mix between reggae and kids music, but not in a good way. Oh well it was nice to be outside and with friends.

update

So as most of you know we had a bit of an interesting/scary occurrence recently. Justin plays soccer on Monday nights and two weeks ago I got a call from one of his teammates' wives saying that Justin had hit heads with another player and had been unconscious for about a minute. She took him to the ER and I met him there. The main concern about his condition was that he was having short term memory loss and wasn't retaining anything we were telling him-basically asking the same few questions over and over. To make a long story short, they did a CT scan and it came out o-e had a concussion and amnesia-not fun! I took him home and the next day his memory pretty much came back-a lot better than it was at the hospital-he still doesn't' remember the game or anything the rest of the night-but other than that-life is back to normal-THANKFULLY! I now have told him that he needs to wear one of those soft helmets when he plays :)

Busy couple of days!

We've been quite busy the past few days and I think the weekend definitely wore Ethan out. On Friday Ethan got a chance to meet Alicia and Kevan, who were in from Nebraska. We hung out at the house a while and then headed to Ricardo's for some pizza, which was excellent as always. We then stopped by St Mary's Festival, it was alittle too loud there so we didn't stay too long.

On Saturday, Justin had off so we planned to walk over to the Bayview library for their book sale, but coincidentally the South Shore Water Frolics parade was about to start. We decided, well I guess I decided because Justin was very reluctant to watch the parade, to make it Ethan's first parade. It was a lot of fun and a good first parade because it wasn't too long, but as you can see, Ethan enjoyed it in his own little way!

We then headed off to Ethan's babysitters' book party, she just started selling Barefoot Books.
We ended the day Saturday with a trip to Bastille Days, where we ran into Justin's parents, and aunts and uncles and hung out with Justin and Lizzy for awhile too. We didn't get home until almost midnight-luckily Ethan fell asleep at Bastille Days-still a little later than his normal bedtime of 7:30.

Sunday rolled around and we keep going, we headed over to South Shore Frolics with my parents. We walked there from our house and there was a nice breeze so it was a great walk. We walked through the art fest, the car show and ate some yummy food. Ethan stayed up for almost all of it and had a great time laughing and giggling.

Today is my day off so I got to hang out with Ethan all day, I think he was catching up on his sleep though because his naps were a little longer than usual. When Justin got home we went for a nice walk to Stone Creek and then decided to try rice cereal with Ethan when we got home. It took us about 20 minutes to find the video camera, but finally we were all set....Ethan's first bite did not go so well, I think he was a little confused, but then he got the hang of it and ate pretty much all of it.

4 months and Baby Graham!

We just had our 4 month check up and Ethan seems to be right on track, he's 14 lbs 14 oz now and 24 1/4 inches long-he's slowed down in inches but our Dr made a good point that he's got genetics working against him in that field :) -we're going to start rice cereal soon, so we're excited to see how that goes...

Ethan's been spending more time exploring different things and new toys-he loves his froggie, which you can see seems to be his comfort item, and the exersaucer-not to mention mommy's necklaces . He also just realized that his tongue moves and is constantly sticking it out-which is great along with his little giggle that just cracks everyone up!
He also doesn't mind sharing his bumbo with Lola-

I have no idea why she decided it would be a comfortable place

to hang out-but oh well. We were alittle worried at first but she seems to be getting along quite well with him.

Also very exciting news, Ethan's new cousin Graham was born on July 2nd! He's the biggest of the three boys in terms of weight, but just seems to be the littlest of them all. Justin is very excited because he can now dress them up as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for Halloween-he's one step closer to having all 4(he said he'd sacrifice and be one for now). We're really excited to have the 3 boys be able to grow up together and be so close in age.

3 months, Florida

Better late than never...here is Ethan's 3 month pic, we almost forgot to take it so we had to catch him at the end of the day sleeping!

We just got back from our long planned trip to Disney World, we were very hesitant to take Ethan(or I guess I should say I was)...he did a great job on the plane and slept the whole way, we worked our most of our kinks the first day at Sea World with feeding him and figuring out how to keep him out of the sun without suffocating him(he's still too young for sunscreen).
Justin and I got the hang of it and we also went to Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom. We also took Ethan in the pool for the first time-with many layers on-poor kid I dressed him so crazy :)

Once we got home, Ethan came down with a fever and a rash and after a trip to urgent care, we found out he had his first ear infection...NOT FUN. But after a few days of medication he seems to be slowly getting better-but it definitely helped out that Justin had thursday and friday off, and I had today off.

Other than that Ethan's just getting bigger and bigger-he LOVES standing now and holding his head up all the time. Oh yeah and Cousin Baby Bean decided not to be born while we were gone which we were really excited about...any day now!!!!

Disney here we come....

We officially leave for Disney World tomorrow-I have a bunch of different emotions going on about that-ready for a vacation, nervous, anxious, so much to think about-especially when you have to pack for a baby! We started packing last night though and should have more than enough for the trip-the only really difficult thing will be to try to keep Ethan out of the sun since he's still too young for sunscreen-it will be fun though and hopefully a somewhat relaxing VACA. Plus I'm alittle worreid about the plane ride, I hate flying myself and hopefully it won't bother Ethan at all-atleast we booked a direct flight-no connections for us!!!!!

Ethan is now 3 months old-CRAZY! He's getting so big and we went through and have packed away boxes of old clothes that don't fit-but hey that means i get to buy new fun things for him...

We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of baby cousin bean, but are hoping he/she doesn't arrive while we're away....

I'll post pics and a trip recap after we get back :)

Mother's Day, Graduation and more

So much has happened these past few weeks....we celebrated our first Mother's Day! It was a beautiful day and we woke up and went for a walk and then had my parents, Nick and Janet and Wilson over for a very yummy brunch and then headed over to Justin's aunt and uncles house to see his side of the family-it was a great day....

Then this past weekend Justin graduated from UWM and we had a small gathering over at the house afterwards. We had catering from Beans and Barley and it was excellent-I would highly highly recommend it to anyone(a little plug for them:). I think Justin's definitely excited to be done with school and have a bit more free time and we'll get to see him more as well. He's going to put the feelers out there for jobs, but fortunately he has a pretty stable and accommodating job for right now, so he doesn't need to be frantically looking.

Ethan had his 2 month check up yesterday, well he's about 2 1/2 months now but close enough. He's just over 12lbs now and has grown over 2 inches-Growing like a weed! Everything went well, he got a couple of shots and did amazing and I was able to ask my millions of questions about our upcoming trip to FL.

I'll post some pics of all of these events soon!

8 Weeks and One Day Old!

We got this idea from a variety of people to take a pic of Ethan every month next to the same object so that we can see his growth. I think it's a great idea because he's already grown so much and you don't really realize it when you see him every day. We chose his stuffed elephant since it's big and will take him awhile to out grow.

Ethan still has his first cold-it seems to be hanging on for quite awhile, but I went to his Dr and she said everything's just fine-just congested-Which means I have to torture him with the cute little elephant snot sucker daily-I'm sure he'll have reoccurring nightmares about it!

We went to the Brewer Game this past weekend and Grandma and Grandpa DeVoe got to babysit the little guy-but we made sure he was sporting Brewer Apparel before we left and snapped a few pics...

We've been lucky to enjoy the weather and go on many walks. Still trying to get out to the Urban Ecology center though with Janet and Cousin Wilson. It's so fun watching Wilson with Ethan, he is so gentle with him and rocks his car seat and hands him his pacifier and toys. Ahhhh..little kids!(This pic was taken at the hospital-one of my favorites)

Back to Work

Ethan is 6 weeks old today and I officially went back to work at CJ. I was surprisingly strong this morning and didn't cry when I dropped him off-I think it helped that he was sleeping when I dropped him off. I did stop and get an extra large coffee though to suppress my feelings :)

Ethan did well at the babysitters and even went to a play group! I'm definately excited that I have off of work tomorrow though to spend with him. I do have a closing tomorrow afternoon and have a feeling I will be spending most of my day figuring it out-but atleast I'll get to hang out with him.

Justin started putting in the our new bamboo floors to get ready fro when Ethan starts crawling and it looks awesome-I feel much better about him crawling around on that someday soon.

Big Weekend!

So many things happened this weekend. Ethan got to meet his Aunt Jodi and Uncle Andy-they are visiting from Dayton for the week and Ethan's looking forward to some quality time with Jodi! (Uncle Andy went up to LaCrosse to visit his fam)

Ethan also started wearing his cloth diapers! Although they seem a little big on him and he looks like a little Sumo wrestler, we're very happy not to be using disposable diapers anymore and creating so much garbage-it was crazy. He's adjusting well to them and we're having no problems so far!

The next big thing is that Ethan slept in his room downstairs last night for the first time!!! He did really well and I think I did too-considering. I will admit I did sleep half the night on the couch because I wanted to be close if he needed me. Maybe tonight I won't worry as much....doubtful :)

7 lbs 5 oz!

We had our follow up Doctor's Appt today and Ethan has gained 14oz since his last visit which was really good! Sad to say though he'll be outgrowing those newborn clothes in no time. It's amazing to see his transformation in just over two weeks. Knock on wood, he's still sleeping extremely well and has an excellent temperment-not sure who he gets that from :)

My very very talented friend Stephanie has created these awesome Baby Announcements for us and we should have them next week to send out. I'm not going to lie-it was probably the most difficult yet fulfilling experience of my life.

I went into labor on Saturday at 10:30pm and finally delivered at 2:17am on Monday...we went into the hospital on Sunday morning, but were ultimately sent home-we went back again at 3pm and were finally admitted at 6pm. Thigns were progressing slowly so the doctor ordered Potocin(SP?), yet not beofre I got my epidural-it was Glorious to not feel the contractions any longer. Unfortunately my epidural began to wear off right around the time I began pushing and was told the anesthesiologist would not be avail-fortunately we finished with the c-section in time to up my dosage. I pushed for about an hour, but Ethan was stubborn and didn't want to come out, the Doctor decided to use the forceps and a couple of pushes later-Justin and I had our new son! I'm so glad we waited and didn't find out what we were having-it was such a great surprise. It was also a funny coincidence that it was our delivery doctors' birthday as well.

Ethan lost a little more weight than was suggested at the hospital and we were a little worried, but went to the Doctor today and his weight increased greatly since yesterday which was a great sign-I'm already a mother that worries too much!!!!!

We're adjusting to life at home and the days seem to fly by-pretty soon my maternity time will be over :(

Stay updated for future posts!

Two Weeks and Counting

So we officially hit 38 weeks on Wednesday and it doesn't look like our little one is ready to come out yet-the Doctors predict I will either be right around my due date or a little late-Aughhhh. We're pretty much ready for the baby to get here-well as much as two first-time parents can be-we have the room set up, the clothes and diapers washed, and the bags ready-I'm such a last minute person though that I'm sure I'll change what I'm bringing right before we leave.

I thought I'd start this blog so that all of our friends and family that we don't get a chance to see as often as we'd like, can still be a part of our babies life and see the many milestones.
